IST or SAW? Choosing the Right Istanbul Airport Transfer
Understand the difference between IST and SAW airport pickups and avoid common mistakes when booking your Istanbul hotel transfer.

Istanbul has two major passenger airports: Istanbul Airport (IST) and Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW). They are different pickup locations. Before booking a transfer, check the three-letter airport code on your flight confirmation rather than relying on the phrase “Istanbul airport.”
Start with your ticket
Your arrival and departure flights may use different airports. A round trip therefore needs two separate checks. Write down the airline, flight number, date and airport code for each leg. This is particularly useful if a travel agency or another family member booked the flights.
Match the route to your hotel
Your destination matters as much as the airport. Istanbul covers a wide area, and a hotel in Sultanahmet, Taksim, Şişli or elsewhere will have a different route. Give the full hotel address when requesting a quote. Road conditions and the time of day can change the journey, so avoid planning an important appointment immediately after landing.
Think about your group and bags
Passenger count is only part of the vehicle choice. Four guests with several large suitcases may need more luggage space than a larger group traveling with cabin bags. List all adults, children, suitcases and unusual items when you book. Ask about a suitable child seat in advance if needed.
Check the meeting instructions
Pickup points and arrival procedures can differ between airports and may change. Use the instructions in your latest booking confirmation. If you cannot locate your driver or meeting representative, contact the number in that confirmation before leaving the designated meeting area.
The simplest way to avoid a transfer mistake is to verify the airport code, destination address and travel date together before confirming your reservation.
